Maintainers & Contributors Roundtable

The Maintainers & Contributors Roundtable (M&CR) functions as a community space for developers who are either interested in or already actively maintaining and/or contributing to open source projects. Members of the M&CR will learn, discern, and propagate best practices in open source development as it pertains to their work at Stanford, individual research projects, and intellectual interest in open source.

If you are a coding lead or PhD/PostDoc researcher from a Stanford research lab who is interested in joining the Maintainers & Contributors Roundtable, please reach out to the Technical Community Manager at fvera@stanford.edu.

Consultations

To help research groups get started, OpenSource@Stanford provides consultations on matters related to open source licenses and community development. We do not provide legal advice, rather general considerations around open source licensing, and a window into what peer groups are doing across campus. It is still early days, and we have much to learn from the already successful projects at Stanford, but we hope to expand our consulting services to help research groups make cogent decisions about how (and whether) to grow the community that they lead.

Workshops

Workshops provide researchers and coding leads with knowledge about best practices for open source software development and encouragement to release their code as openly as possible. In collaboration with the Python Foundation, First Patch workshops will allow developers a more in-depth exposure to the process of contributing to a major open source project.
